Clipping machines are for precision fleece, fiber and hair removal. They use blade sets which must be set up properly.
An expander stretches the latex rubber ring(s) open to allow sliding it over a tail or scrotum. When released the ring(s) clamps the arteries shut. The tail or scrotum usually drops off in 7 to 14 days.
Shearing machines are used for the rapid removal of fleece, fiber and hair. They use combs and cutters. Properly installing combs and cutters is critical.

There are two main styles of chutes used for handling sheep—the treatment chute and the sorting chute. Handling setups for larger flocks (500+) often have both types of chutes. Smaller flocks do their treatment within the sorting chute.
