Bucket Teat Units (original design)
Product Details
Feed orphan lambs, goat kids and calves by attaching teat unit to a square bucket. Teats sold separately. (See Accessories tab below.)
Use a bucket teat wrench to easily tighten or loosen the plastic gray “nut”.
Instructions/Diagrams:
Common Uses
Specs
When using buckets with pre-drilled holes, we’ll drill 1.5" diameter holes, for up to 6 teat units on 3 sides of the bucket. If you decide to drill your own holes, the hole should be 1.5" diameter, and 0.5" up from inside bottom of the bucket.
Teats sold separately.
As an alternative, consider using Easy Clean Bucket Teat Units. The unit itself remains on the bucket, while the nipple and flow control pin can be quickly removed for washing.
Tips
Why so low? When a young ruminant stretches out its neck to nurse, their esophagus elongates and forms a groove that carries the milk into the 4th stomach (the abomasum).
If the neck is not stretched, the milk falls into the first stomach instead of the 4th. But the first stomach is intended for grass and hay. It doesn’t digest milk well. A first stomach with too much milk enlarges to form a “potbelly”—and the lamb/kid can’t thrive.
Mountable Teat Feeders (for welded wire panels or wall mounting) are an alternative DIY option.

At first, I liked this teat unit and then found cleaning it was very inconvenient. The whole assembly needed to be dismantled and if milk coagulated at all, it’s extremely difficult to clean the ball. I ended up using tweezers to loosen even though it had soaked for 24 hours in soapy water.

I had to order extra washers because the red rubber nipples do not come with a washer like the other flat back nipples do. So I was not able to tighten the nipple to the bucket. When the extra washers came I attached them. The spacing was correct, but having two of them actually made it unusable. When I would tighten to stop the leak, one washer would slip up over the other and the cause even more leaking. My preference would be a single thicker washer instead of two, so it would fill up the space without one moving over the other and continuing the leakage. My frustration is that I have these washers and brand new rubber nipples and I’m unable to use them because they leak.

Easy to use and quick to set up. I bought extra just in case, but I don’t think I’ll need them. But I do have some spares.

I think these gaskets wear out fast but maybe that is normal. In fairness, I haven’t used others to compare them with. If you are using the Premier square bucket feeder, you might need to keep a lot of these on hand. I have needed to use pairs to prevent leaking.
