Note: The exact number of birds to water is difficult to determine as there are many factors that influence intake; salt and protein levels in the diet, humidity, temperature, productivity (growth or egg production) and the birds ability to process feed and water.
How to Use
- Filling the unit is done through the top of the tank.
- While filling, the spigot is sealed by a rubber key style bung.
- Once you place the tank onto the tripod, remove the bung, slacken the carry handle and let the pan fill.
- Once it covers the outlet pipe, tighten up the carrying handle creating a vacuum that controls the release of water as your birds drink.

Once you figure them out these waterers are fantastic! Just work the red rubber plug into the spout before filling. Fill with water and screw on the cap strong. Pull the plug and you are done. I use these for my Sulcata tortoise, chickens and even my bees.

Should of written about this a few months ago. Bought the 7.5 gallon waterer for my turkeys. Was great for a while but last January it started to leak which meant the water slowly drained out over the course of 24 hours. I am going to guess one of the seams on the upper part has a slit or tiny hole in it. It did not make it through winter.
Yes, I made sure the cap was on very tight. Winters are not harsh in this area of the country. As much as this waterer costs, it should last for years.
The smaller one I bought has had no issues, so far.

I had one operator failure the first time I filled it because I didn’t tighten the cap well and it all slowly drained out overnight. The next try, I screwed the cap tighter and it worked brilliantly.
I love the covered bowl aspect vs. drinking cups and levers. I know my chickens are getting all they want each time. Also super easy to add Thrive to their water for health benefits. Finally, a quality waterer for 10 or more chickens in the 7.5 gallon size. The disc that holds the water stays under the unit up on the stand, so debris and manure stay out really well.
Any beekeepers out there this is a great way to keep fresh water available in the summer so the bees can cool their hives.

It doesn’t seal well and leaks consistently. The opening is far too small. The plastic plug in the bottom is a complete hassle to put in. Products from Premier 1 have really been poor quality lately and customer service is awful. In order to get a refund and the shipping paid to return, they said they have to test it out first.

I have 4 chickens, 1 rooster that previously used a horizontal nipple watering system, but when I had to put on pinless peepers them, needed to find a new system. This system seems well made (have used around a month, not sure how it’ll hold up long term.) Set it up in about 5 minutes and functioned fine.
Potential issues — the hole to fill it on the top is about big enough to get my hand in but that’s it (my hands are pretty small). When it’s triple digits I don’t see a way to put any relatively large sized chunks of ice or frozen packs in it to help keep the water cooled down (ice cubes would be gone in about 5 minutes).
As far as filling, I found an old flower pot deep enough to set the waterer in to hold while I fill it or while I clean off the base (I don’t have water at the coop so have to carry back/forth.) It’s an open watering system and while it would be tough for them to kick stuff into the base, it still gets dirty when they dip their beaks in as would any open watering system. So I still rinse it out the base daily. Hopefully I won’t have to use the peepers long and will just use this as a back up waterer when I return to the nipple system.
